About Sol’s L.A.

I’m very obviously not a photographer.  I’m first of all a storyteller and secondly an L.A. woman who loves her city with a passion bordering on obsession.  I was born and raised here in L.A. – Glendale Memorial Hospital as a matter of fact.  My grandparents lived near the old Ralph’s factory off of San Fernando Road and I know just about every inch of this city.

I love finding old things in L.A. that normally people don’t notice because they’re just going about their business.  I’ve a sense of the bizarre, can be wildly inappropriate and random about what I think is beautiful.  I find beauty in winos and crackheads, bricks and dirt, flowers and buildings. I’m an Aztec dancer, my culture is intensely important to me so you’ll find bits of that as well.  To me, everything I see is a story waiting to be told.  I’m also trying to see if I can get all 54 La Loteria cards in here.*  I’ve found La Luna… and a few others without really trying, so I’m wondering if I can find them all around the city and how long it will take me.

My observations can be silly or cynical but always, always my love for my home is there and I wanted to share it with someone that I love very much who shares this city with me, then decided to make it public as well.  This is my story of L.A. told in tags, captions and sometimes really bad photography.  It’s intended to be a story tapestry. My wonderful oldest son Albert bought me a better camera and I’m learning it so please bear with me.

Mexica Tiahui,

Gina Marysol Ruiz

sometimes known as La Sol (does that qualify me for the Loteria card El Sol?)

(VDF, this is for you)

* Chicano/Mexican reference that most people won’t get – so Google it or Wiki it, I won’t help this time.
